e417. Doomscrolling and Redemption: The Evolution of Faces of Death

In 1978, a movie called Faces of Death was released and gained a cult following as a weird sort of reflection of the world’s contemporary view of trauma in the contemporary media age. Several sequels were made, but now they seem somewhat dated as live in a world mediate by the internet rather than television. This weekend, that franchise was rebooted. So today, Monica and Hannah are joined by the screenwriter on the project, Isa Mazzei, to talk about the evolution of the project and to have a frank discussion about the depiction of death and trauma on the internet and how it informed her film. From Fake news to AI and the psychological effects of constantly ingesting it all. Also, we talk about the movie. Listen and let us know your thoughts in the comments. And then make sure you go see Faces of Death, in theaters now.
