e368. PCA 2025: The Presentations!

If you’ve been listening to the show for the past few weeks then you know that this month has been our special series of PCA episodes, and this might very well be the episode that you’ve been waiting for. We all went the Popular Culture Association International Conference in New Orleans, but how did the presentations go? Well, now’s your chance to judge for yourself by listening to our talks or even watching the slideshows on YouTube. The show kicks off with Monica’s exploration of Coco Chanel’s post-WWII fashion innovations and their implications on modern femininity and Cold War cultural politics. Next, Hannah discusses how contemporary romance novels reimagine Victorian courtship narratives through a feminist lens. Then Wayne dives into the role of music in identity formation and nostalgia in Jaime Hernandez’s Love and Rockets comics. Finally, Mav presents his analysis of Sabrina Carpenter and the evolution of the “Pop Princess sexual index”, examining the shifting landscape of female sexuality in pop music. We’d love to know what you think, so listen and let us know your thoughts in the comments.
