It’s October and we’re well into spooky season and like every year we like to spend that time diving into some of the more horror based pop culture we can find. A few years ago, we did an episode all about the varying film adaptations of Dracula and noted that Dracula himself was perhaps one of the most adapted characters in the history of fiction. But what is it like to create such an adaptation. On this week’s episode, Mav, Hannah and Wayne are joined by renowned comics creators Matt Wagner and Kelly Jones about their ambitious project to retell and expand on Bram Stoker’s original text. Wagner and Jones share insights into their creative process, the funding of the project through Kickstarter, and their commitment to explore untold stories within the Dracula mythos.
Additionally, the conversation touches on the timeless appeal of Dracula in modern culture, the importance of historical accuracy in storytelling, and the freedom of independent creation. With insights into their collaborative dynamics, they discuss what sets their graphic novels apart from traditional adaptations and examine how Dracula continues to captivate audiences worldwide. Whether you’re interested in Dracula and vampires specifically, or comics and storytelling in general, we think you might enjoy this, so listen and let us know your thoughts in the comments.
