e353. Prestige TV vs. Streaming Movies

If you live on the planet earth and watch TV in the modern era, chances are you watch at least some streaming TV shows. What was once a niche and geeky “new media” extravagance is pretty much the default way to view content today. In fact, some of the most notable and most prestigious television shows being produced today are “streaming only” rather than being existing on broadcast TV or even cable networks. And of course, There’s also streaming movies. But somehow, that just doesn’t seem to have the same prestige. Certainly there are some success stories, such as last months’ Carry-On, which we talked about on the most recent Christmas movies episode, but the vast majority of streaming movies that reach any kind of notoriety in the cultural zeitgeist are films we laugh at almost as much as anything Stephen Segal has filmed in the last… well, 30 years or so. Why is that?

On this week’s episode, Mav and Wayne Welcome Ceci Garrison and Logan Brown to talk all about TV changes in the streaming era why they might not translate to movies, how box office financials and legacy media vs streaming plays into this and then some nostalgic looking back at some of our favorite unresolved cliffhangers… and we talk Little House on the Prairie. It’s a lot! How do we get there? Listen and then let us know your thoughts in the comments.
