Like… regular readers know that unironically like Riverdale, Cop Rock, Manimal, The Circle and Showgirls. So if you know that about me… and you are somehow aware of the recent TV series MILF Manor then it should be no surprise “of course Mav is watching that show.” You also might think about the shows Monica loves stuff like Gossip Girl, F-Boy Island and 90 Day Fiancé and then you hear that she is also into the show and you’re probably like “yeah, that scans!” Even if you’ve never heard of the show MILF Manor — which, let’s face it… that’s gotta be most people — if you listen to our show you just know that it fits in. But you’re probably wondering “how?!? will they make a show about this?”
First, let me say what the show is. MILF Manor is a reality dating show on TLC. Yes… The Learning Channel. The premise is simple. Eight women in their mid-40s to late 50s are flown to a resort in Mexico where they are promised a chance to be on a dating show where they will get the chance to hook up with hot younger men. But the twist is that when they get there, they learn that all of the younger men are the kids of the women on the show who each thought they were going on a dating show to meet attractive older women. So now you have middle-aged women trying to hook up with each others 20-something sons while also trying to cock-block their own sons and vice versa.
Are you not entertained?! ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?!!!!
So yeah, I watched every episode. Mostly because I wanted to see how they were going to turn what is obviously a PornHub premise into something that would work on TLC. A lot of my work has to do with the study o sexuality as well as the study of youth culture. I’m also into the study of porn. So from the jump this seemed really interesting and I wanted to at least give it a chance. I fully expected it to be awful. What surprised me is that it’s actually… not that bad. In fact, sometimes it’s even… dare I say it… heartwarming. I expected it to be a lot dumber. I expected it to be a lot raunchier. I expected it to really dive into weird misogyny and double standards and unhealthy relationships between the mothers and sons. Basically… I expected trash. Oddly enough, it was actually kind of heart warming. Don’t get me wrong… they’re still reality show people… they’re still weird. Many of them are unhealthy almost by definition! But it was interesting seeing what ultimately was a lot of loving and supportive relationships.
But also, it’s a bunch crazy reality show people trying to hook up with each other’s moms/sons.
So we’re going to talk about it and we want to know your thoughts. Have you ever seen this show? Have you ever even heard of it? Are you curious? Would you ever consider doing a show like this with your mom? See, if you listened to our old people still fuck episode from a couple weeks ago then you know, I actually don’t think it’s gross for older women to want to have relationships with men half their age so long as everyone is a consenting adult (and I’m ok with older men and younger women too… or any other gender combination).
