Thirty-nine years ago, NBC debuted the sitcom A Different World. Originally a spin-off of the The Cosby Show, following Lisa Bonet’s Denise Huxtable characters, the show slowly evolved into an ensemble program that chronicled life at the fictional HBCU Hillman University for six seasons. Two weeks ago, the show returned as a Netflix dramedy that follows the newest generation of Hillman freshmen as they interact with each other and their predecessors from the original show. On this week’s episode, Mav is joined by recent HBCU graduate Taylor Hagans and HBCU professor Seth Davis to critique the old show and the reboot and explore how they reflect reality of life at Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Listen and let us know your thoughts in the comments.
Note: There were some technical difficulties on this episode which might affect the recording quality. Our apologies.
