e424. Exploring Eurovision: A Look at the World’s Greatest Stage Spectacle

One of the problems we, as Americans, often have is when we look at popular culture, we assume a very American point of view. Because all of the hosts of this show are American, we are as guilty of that as anyone else. But we try to look beyond it. This is one of those weeks where we’re really going to try. The Eurovision Song Contest was held from May 12-16 of this year and it is, without exaggeration, one of the largest televised events in the world and has been for over 70 years. We just tend to ignore it in United States because we’re not a part of it. Well, not this year. On today’s episode, Mav is joined by returning guests Stephanie Siler, John Darowski, and new guest Fred Zeleny to talk all about Eurovision, its history, its spectacle, its significance, its majesty, its geopolitics, and… well, its abject craziness. Whether you’re a long time Eurovision fan or a first time watcher, join us as we dive into the craziness of the event.
