Have you ever seen those ads for those over the top melodramatic drama movies on TikTok or Facebook or Instagram Reels or Youtube shorts? And by ads, we mean basically… 2-5 minutes of the movie in an attempt to hook you into watching the rest of it? If you have, did you click on it? If you didn’t it’s probably because you looked at it and said “this is dumb and I want no part of it.” However, someone is clicking on them, because the vertical microdrama industry has crested $14billion dollars. They’re actually pretty insanely popular with the right demographic. So we thought we should look at them. On this week’s episode, Mav and Maybe are joined by new guests and self-professed microdrama fans Jessi Bencloski and Cori Bulger to talk all about vertical microdramas from their origins to their popularity. What makes them tick? Are they actually any good? Listen to our thoughts and then let us know yours in the comments.
