If you pay attention to the weekly pop-culture media landscape you might be aware that a new Supergirl movie released the weekend before this episode. It performed… somewhat underwhelmingly at the box office. It also had mixed reviews. But is that fair? On this episode Mav, Wayne and Hannah welcome returning guest, comics scholar Anna Peppard to talk a little bit about the movie (only a little, very minor spoilers in this episode if you’re worried) but moreover the legacy and cultural impact of the Supergirl character overall. Why has the character endured for nearly 70 years while at the same time being relatively obscure in terms of mainstream superheroes. Why is there so much expectation on the character in the first place? And why is there so much value in the character despite her many missteps over 7 decades? On this episode we walk through the history and evolution of the character and her ongoing impact. Do you agree? Listen and let us know your thoughts in the contacts.
